A generation abandoned?

The alternative white paper, In Defence of Public Higher Education, described a generational injustice, where previous beneficiaries of public higher education pass on its costs to future generations. The extent of the generational injustice is becoming more evident and is not restricted to reforms in higher education. The official figures for youth unemployment have now reached over 1 million (or 1 in 5 young people) but, as Martin Allen writes, the true figure could be as high as 1 in 3. Yet, the Government is capping university places, rather than expanding them.

Meanwhile, these youth protests and the connection with higher education reforms  are widely reported abroad with German and Austrian media also commenting very favourably on the alternative white paper.
